Beautiful Girl

~ Soothing ballad with piano, strings and some electronic components ~ 2020-06-07

A song of love and hope, for women recovering from abuse.

Notes / Back story

"But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea."

~ Matthew 18:6, Holy Bible (KJV)

Too much in society I think we tend to overlook abuse, both when it is happening and in realizing the long-term effects that it can have. Over the last few years I have listened to firsthand accounts of women who were abused as children and seen how this affected them throughout their lives. Also I realize that abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional or can take other forms. This is a song of love and hope, reaching out to those who are hurting.

I originally wrote the music in 2018 but only recently was I able to find the right words.

Lyrics

Girl,
Beautiful Girl:
This life has been so much less
than you hoped it would be.
The ones who you trusted best
Have left you in misery

Now you're afraid of repeating the past
But hoping to find a love that will last
Caught up in the mayhem all about you
Deafened by the voices that call out to you.

Where to begin, how to proceed?
Who will hold your heart, and meet your needs?
How can you avoid those who deceive?
Who can you believe?

Girl,
Beautiful Girl:
I never may know the pain
In your history
But I know you will break those chains
And you will be free.

There are lovely places and good things
You will feel God's grace in your surroundings
Still I know the battles rage in your mind
Chained up in a cage and half blind

Struggling now to find the light
Ev'ry day another fight
How many years will go by?
How much more will you endure?
Even if those who hurt you are gone
Still the pain lives on

Girl,
Beautiful Girl:
Listen to me,
Please listen to me.
You will find the peace you seek
And the joy that will be.

Girl,
Beautiful Girl:
No one can hurt you now,
This is your world.
No one will hurt you now,
Beautiful Girl.
