Strawberries and Cream

~ soft rock ballad, carribean ~ 2010-11-15

Basking in the simple joys of being together is often better than a Hawaiian vacation.

Lyrics

Sittin' on the kitchen counter with you
Having strawberries and cream
And drinking up our love
At midnight
On a Tuesday in the spring

There is nowhere else that I'd rather be,
Than just
soaking - up - the - love - of - you - and - me
This moment
In a place of pure content

We're in love.
We're in love.

It's a simple idea, not much to say
Just glad that I'm alive
and here with you today
Wherever
We may find ourselves to be

We don't need an island paradise
Or beautiful scenery, Just you and me.
Completely
And we're all that we can see.

We're in love.
We're in love.
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in love.

Where are we?
Who are we?
When are we?
Why are we?
We are Here, Us and Now,
I don't know why.

but I'm ok with that.
I'm ok with that.
I'm ok with that.

There is nowhere else that I'd rather be
Standing knee deep in life with you
is enough for me
Contentment
As the waves go rushing by.

There is nothing else that I'd rather do
Right now, than be right here with you
And with your love
Surrounded
And washing over me

We're in love.
We're in love.
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in
(La la la la la la la la la la la love)
We're in love.

Notes / Back story

Got the original idea for this one back in spring of 2005, rediscovering the world of dating after my divorce. Then I left it alone for a few years (5) until I finally got some ideas on how to finish it. The female vocals are by a friend of mine, Tanya Jensen Clark. Tanya also put together the video slide show for this song.

I don't want you to think that the song is about any one person, even though the original inspiration did come from a specific experience. The song is much bigger than that one experience; it can be about any time we just enjoy being who we are, where we are, with someone we love.

This is probably the most giddy love song I've ever written, what with all the "la la la la" and the repeating line, "We're in love".
