Reach Out Your Hand

~ Religious Piano Ballad ~ 2016-10-01

Sometimes doing things all on our own is great, but sometimes there is a better way.

Notes / Back story

My 'online music friend' Angie Killian gave me some music she had started that had a chorus but no verses, to see if I wanted to take it over and finish it up. I took on the challenge and I think we were both happy with the results.

Lyrics

V1

While sitting in the park one day
I watched a young child make his way
Atop a narrow, stony wall
His father close to catch his fall.

And from what little I could see
I thought how easy it would be
For a dad to help his son,
If the child would hold on.

Reach out your hand,
look up his way,
He'll help you stand,
Steady you when you sway.
His arms are out,
Waiting for you.
Reach out your hand,
Reach out your hand.

V2

But toddler, seeing those now grown,
Saw how they did it on their own.
And thought, what he saw others do
Surely he could manage too.

What that young one did not know,
Was that, not so long ago
Those children, now so strong
Were helped as they walked along.

Reach out your hand,
look up his way,
He'll help you stand,
Steady you when you sway.
His arms are out,
Waiting for you.
Reach out your hand,
Reach out your hand.

V3

Of course, sometimes we all
Are that infant on the wall.
Set to go off on our own
Where the perils are unknown.

Like Peter on the ship,
When Jesus walked across the sea,
We have the confidence,
But lack the faith we need.

Reach out your hand,
look up his way,
He'll help you stand,
Steady you when you sway.
His arms are out,
Waiting for you.
Reach out your hand,
Reach out your hand.

Reach out your hand,
Reach out your hand.
