Beginning At The End (Star Wars)

~ soft rock ballad ~ 2005-07-13

Sometimes we do things kinda backwards but it all turns out to make sense by the final episode.

Notes / Back story

I wrote this one for some friends who had a 30 year wedding anniversary coming up. For their first date, they went to see the original Star Wars (Episode IV) in the theater. The lines went around the block and they weren't able to get in for the show they had planned, so they were going to have to wait for the next show. But if they did that, he wouldn't have been able to get her home from the theater on time. So, they got the ticket guy to let them into the show that had started an hour ago. After that show was over, they stayed and watched the first half of the next showing. Then they left and go home on time!

As it turns out, this turned to be kindof the way their whole lives together would go, as well as the entire Star Wars saga. They immediately began dating steady, even though they were both still in high school. Even after he left for college and she was still in high school they kept dating. They never seriously dated anyone else, even though it was several years before they were married.

Musically speaking, I gotta say I'm very proud of the way I snatched pieces from the main star wars theme songs and worked them in behind the Star Wars sound bytes... especially the end one, when I turn Luke's theme into a boogie blues number.

Lyrics

Episode Four
A New Hope; built on the pillars of the past
We have a love that is so new and at the same time so familiar
How could we not know if this crazy thing would last?
As long as we both choose it, there's no reason that we should lose it

I remember what happens next, just like it was yesterday
Our roads have parted more than once, but we have never stayed away
And we have no need to fear the things that we don't know
Because we have already seen the ending of the show

It's like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars

Beginning at the end.
Do you know, where it's gonna go?
Can you see, choice leads to destiny?
Can you say, how we came to be this way?
Can we find, the future in our minds?

DANCE BREAK

Episode One
We first met, and our path was already set
"Let's call it a date" we said, and that's how we began
But they said, "Have you tried all the flavors?"
And we said, "No need, cuz we can savor this one for all our lives

Growing happily together, sharing joy and sharing pain,
Now and then we wake up in the lights of an approaching train
Somewhere in the middle, maybe halfway down the road
And we have already seen the final episode

It's like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars

Beginning at the end.
Do you know, where it's gonna go?
Can you see, choice leads to destiny?
Can you say, how we came to be this way?
Can we find, the future in our minds?

DANCE BREAK II

It's like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars
Like watching Star Wars

Do you know, where it's gonna go?
Can you see, choice leads to destiny?
Can you say, how we came to be this way?
Can we find, the future in our minds?

Beginning at the end
Do you know, there's no need to join the dark side
Can you see, we can let the force be our guide
Can you say, how we came to be as one
That's what comes, from being friends and having fun
Beginning at the end.

So say something, already!
