Leavers 2012 - Kansas Version
~ Soft rock ballad ~ 2012-09-09
A song about moving on and what we take with us.
This song was originally written by my brother Nathan as he was finishing up his mission for the LDS church in Indiana, and the original title was "So Long Indiana." They recently moved from Kansas back 'home' to the West, and I reworked this song for the occasion. On this recording, my daughter Kienna (age 10) is singing with me. She also helped in the post-production process by giving her feedback on what takes we should use in the final mix. I think she has a great voice and a great ear!
This is a song for leavers
And those few who would believe us
We never thought that we'd see the day
That we'd feel this way
And some have tried to deceive us
But the Lord did guide and lead us
'Cause it isn't always easy to stay
On the straight and narrow way
So long, now, to Kansas
For a few year's time
You have called me yours
And I have called you mine
So long now, to Kansas
And the fields all in a row
Grain is the farmer's harvest
Ours, the friends we've come to know
Instrumental break
And so our song for leavers
And those few who would believe us
But now it's time to say goodbye
And with tears in our eyes
So long, now, to Kansas
For a few year's time
You have called me yours
And I have called you mine
So long now, to Kansas
And the fields all in a row
Grain is the farmer's harvest
Ours, the friends we've come to know
