Just Wanna Be Alone Right Now

~ Soft Rock / New age ~ 2014-06-30

In silence and solitude there is much joy to be found.

Notes / Back story

I cranked this one out pretty quick... just got the idea for the chorus while on a morning walk this past week. One of the challenges I faced was that once I got a good groove going, I had a little trouble getting out of the rut. I needed some variety! I pulled up one of my many folders full of musical snippets that I wrote down at one time or another and cut and pasted some of them into this song, then forced myself to listen to them together to see if I could make them fit. Some I threw out, but the instrumental piano section is 'composed' of two of those... ha ha...

Also I spent a lot of time throwing in some schmaltzy chords, like add 9's and some other stuff that might have a name but I didn't take the time to figure out what it was. The fancy chords are mostly contained in the synth pad track that is in the background most of the time... it's like the warm jello that the whole song sits in.

One other thing I worked on in this piece was taking out some parts to emphasize others. I usually like to write a whole bunch of parts and then throw them all together, but I have to keep telling myself that people can hear and appreciate stuff better if you don't do it all at once.

Also has a really awesome key change... I don't do a lot of those, but as I was jamming away on writing that big fat synth solo, all of a sudden I landed in another key. I thought, "Cool. That could work" and I just transposed the rest of the song to match it. I think it makes a good moment.

P.S. Credit goes to Danielle for having the idea of repeating the pre-chorus lines from the second verse at the end.

Lyrics

Standing alone at the breaking of dawn
With eyes full of wonder and mind rollin on

The chill of the night is beginning to fade
The warmth of the daylight begins to invade

Enjoying a moment of tranquility
Absorbing the magic of things that I see

I smile and I breathe in the fresh morning air
Exhale and let go of care.

Taking off to nowhere on some old forgotten road
Got no need for company, and leave the heavy load

I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now
I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now

No,
There's nothing wrong

I'm not upset
Or feelin' like I don't belong

Peace
Is not a cancer

I don't need to speak
Not looking for an answer

I'm all right to be here and to
Be all by myself
Fine with who I am I don't need
Anybody else

I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now
I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now

break

I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now
I don't wanna talk to anyone
I just wanna be alone right now

I'm all right to be here and to
Be all by myself
Fine with who I am I don't need
Anybody else

So say something, already!
