Michael Come Home
~ soft rock ballad ~ 2010-03-04
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is admit when you're wrong, but until you do you can't move on.
I think all of us have known someone who has chosen to run away rather than deal with their emotions. Sometimes they are retaliating for hurt feelings and trying to hurt us back. Sometimes they are afraid of their feelings. Sometimes I believe they just shut down because they believe it's too painful. I think that when people do this, they hurt others but they hurt themselves more, because in this 'blocked' state they are unable to progress. Oh, they may get older and learn new talents and do well in school, but inside there is a pain growing larger each day that will never go away until they finally bring it out and deal with it.
I honestly don't know how to deal with people who have emotionally shut down like this. So I write songs to express my love and frustration. Hopefully someday they will listen.
VERSE 1:
Are you who you
Pretend to be?
Yes, I think you are.... I do.
Then why are you pretending
I can see it by the absence of your smile
When you do the things you used to love
I can see it by the way you push away
The people who love you
I can see it, I can see it
By the way you don't hurt when you should be feeling pain
Insane...
I know.
And ludicrous.
CHORUS:
And you can run so fast, but you won't get far
Be over in a flash, like a shooting star
And then you'll wake up wond'ring where you are
Is that really you, or your avatar?
Oh, Michael -
Won't you come on home?
Oh, Michael -
Won't you come on home?
VERSE 2:
Ignoring me
Won't change a thing
You think that I don't know... I do.
Because I've been there too.
How could anybody possibly be
Sitting there alone and so lonely
In the middle of a loud and crowed room
Full of people who care about you?
Whatever it may be that holds you
And you think that no one in this world can understand
I can.
So get over it.
I know the feeling, know the feeling,
When you find you can't go forward, can't go back; I know...
Let go.
Let go.
And find happiness.
CHORUS:
And you can run so fast, but you won't get far
Be over in a flash, like a shooting star
And then you'll wake up wond'ring where you are
Is that really you, or your avatar?
I guess you think that love can be outgrown
You think you look so cool, going on your own
You took your beating heart, locked it up in stone
But there's no possible world where you'll make it alone
Oh, Michael -
Won't you come on home?
Oh, Michael -
Won't you come on home?
