You Alone

~ Ballad ~ 2016-11-20

A love song from a musical I'm working on about the life of David, from the Old Testament.

Notes / Back story

A love song sung by David to Michal, his first love. In my story he sings this song at their first meeting, about the girl he hopes to meet some day, of course hoping that Michal might be the one.

I woke up with this in my head, more complete than almost any I've heard. I had the main melody line and the accompaniment all there, and I managed to keep it in my head until I could run to the computer and write it down.

Lyrics

V1
All of my life I've been fine on my own
But lately lonely feelings have grown
I find myself dreaming of how it might be
To find someone who's meant just for me

Searching for you alone.
Searching for you alone.

V2
I have met many with hearts like a stone
Oh, how the cold winds have blown
But when I meet you and look in your eyes
I hope to find a peaceful surprise

In you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)
In you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)

V3
I dream of a day when lonely feelings have flown
And think of the joy that you and I will have known
In facing life together, and enduring the storms
And always keeping each other warm

Me and you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)
Me and you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)

V4
Forever then, onward, once your face is shown
Our love will not be overthrown
My heart will be with you every day
Whatever trouble may come our way

I'll never leave you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)
Never leave you alone

For it is you alone
(Tell me I alone am the one you know that you need, you know that you need me)
It is you alone

It is you alone
